Why I Shut Down Boblox Bot
After years of growth and reaching over half a million users across nearly 10,000 Discord servers, I made the difficult decision to shut down Boblox Bot. Here's why:
Time Constraints with School
As the bot grew, so did the time required to maintain it. With over 25 million commands processed and a constantly growing user base, the demands became increasingly difficult to balance with my schoolwork. What started as a fun side project eventually required more time than I could sustainably commit.
Server Costs
The hosting costs were approaching $100 per month as the user base grew. Without a monetization strategy, these costs became difficult to justify for a project that wasn't generating revenue.
Monetization Challenges
Discord doesn't allow selling bots directly, which limited my monetization options. I wanted to keep the core experience free for everyone, but without a sustainable revenue model, the costs eventually outweighed what I could reasonably invest in a passion project.
The Legacy Lives On
While Boblox Bot is no longer active, the experience of building and growing it has been invaluable. The strategies I used to grow to over half a million users without any marketing budget continue to inform my approach to product development and community building.
I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who used Boblox Bot, provided feedback, reported bugs, and helped make it the vibrant community it became. Your support and enthusiasm made this journey worthwhile, and I hope you enjoyed being part of the Boblox economy as much as I enjoyed creating it.
